Foreign contractor arrested for ‘vandalising’ streetlights in Abuja

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Company (AMMC) has arrested a prominent expatriate contractor linked to the vandalism of critical street lighting infrastructure in the capital city

AMMC Coordinator Chief Felix Obuah disclosed this development during an inspection of damaged cables and accessories across Abuja.

According to Obuah, the contractor, who operates a business in Abuja, was allegedly involved in dismantling streetlight cables and poles to secure new contracts with the city administration.

The expatriate has since been handed over to the police for investigation. Obuah declined to reveal the suspect’s identity and nationality, pending further inquiry.

Obuah assured that investigations would continue to identify all those involved in the vandalism and ensure Abuja’s streets remain well-lit, fulfilling the vision of transforming the capital into a model city.
