Former French Envoy To Nigeria, Pierre Cherruau Dies Saving Son

    Pierre Cherruau, a former Regional Audio-visual Attaché of the French Embassy in Nigeria, has died.

    He died from injuries sustained in a drowning accident at the Signal beach in Soulac-sur-Mer in France.

    The 48-year-old, who was on a family vacation in the Gironde in the southwest of France, died this morning, hours after the accident on Saturday.

    He was trying to save his 10-year-old son who was drowning after going into the water.  Mr Cherruau and another family member jumped into the water to rescue the boy. The child was rescued but his father suffered fatal injuries which resulted in cardiac arrest which eventually led to his death this morning.

    Nigerian writter, Lola Shoneyin has also taken to social media to mourn his death.Really sad.
