Fubara visited me with 2 Governors – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, recently visited him in Abuja alongside two other governors

Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, made the disclosure on Monday during a media parley with select journalists.

“Yes, he visited,” Wike said, referring to Fubara’s visit, which is seen as part of ongoing reconciliation moves following the deepening political crisis in Rivers State.

The crisis, which began earlier in the year, led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state. Retired Naval Chief Ibok Ekwe Ibas was subsequently appointed as sole administrator.

Although President Tinubu has hosted both Wike and Fubara at various events, including a Ramadan Iftar dinner and a National Police Council meeting, Wike has voiced doubts over the reconciliation process.

He accused Fubara of breaching the terms of a peace deal earlier brokered by the president and insisted that there is still no resolution in sight.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has reached out to pro-Wike lawmakers for a peace meeting, seeking to resolve issues related to the 2025 state budget and outstanding allowances.

Despite the visit and other mediation efforts, the political standoff in Rivers remains unresolved.
