There is often a belief that every money a movie makes at the cinema goes straight into the producer’s pocket. Actress Funke Akindele has now explained that it doesn’t work that way.
Speaking about her record-breaking box office journey, Funke said many people misunderstood what the ₦1 billion figure actually meant.
According to her, the amount represented the total money made at the cinemas, not what she personally received after everyone involved took their share.
She admitted that although she didn’t keep the entire amount, hearing that her movie had crossed the ₦1 billion milestone was still one of the proudest moments of her career because it reflected the hard work that went into making the film.
In her words:
“That 1Billion and above you all heard l made in cinema wasn’t mine alone ooo, it was just for the paper. The cinemas took their own, some people took their own, l only went home with some money. But l can’t forget when l heard my movie grossed 1Billion, it was fun it was good and l was so excited, at least for my hardwork.
May God continue to prosper the work of my hand and also all my fans”.
