FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, announced the milestone on X on Monday, describing the feat as historic and unprecedented for the West African film industry.

The company revealed that Behind The Scenes is now the fastest film in West Africa to hit over ₦1 billion and also set the record for the highest single-day box office on Boxing Day, grossing ₦129.5 million.

“Fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1B+,” FilmOne wrote, adding that it also recorded “the highest single-day gross ever on Boxing Day (₦129.5M).” The movie has also become the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025 so far, maintaining strong momentum weeks after hitting cinemas nationwide.

The distributor highlighted Funke Akindele’s continued dominance in Nollywood, noting that she is now the only director to surpass ₦1 billion at the box office three times and the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1B+ films in a single year. FilmOne described her as “Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time” and extended gratitude to audiences, saying, “This win is for all of us.”

Behind The Scenes had previously crossed ₦512 million within 12 days of release, already making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 at the time. The film held advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before its nationwide cinema debut on December 12, quickly surpassing ₦200 million in its opening weekend—then the biggest opening of the year.

The movie delves into the theme of black tax, exploring the social and financial pressures faced by individuals supporting extended families—a topic that has resonated strongly with viewers. It stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, alongside Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality TV personalities Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.
