World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway at Makun, Ogun State, on Monday, sources confirmed
Eyewitnesses and first responders at the scene told reporters that the vehicle carrying the boxer collided with another car under unclear circumstances. Two people were confirmed dead at the scene, while Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries and was attended to promptly by emergency teams.
A witness involved in the rescue operation said emergency personnel acted quickly to evacuate the injured. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Traffic officials and local police have cordoned off the crash site as investigations into the cause of the collision continue. Officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency were present at the scene.
Social media was flooded with messages from fans expressing concern for Joshua’s condition and sympathy for the victims’ families.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, with further updates expected as investigators and medical teams release more information.
