Ghana Coach Resigns After FIFA World Cup Exit
Ghana coach Otto Addo has resigned from his position after exiting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Ghana finished bottom of Group H after losing against Portugal and Uruguay to be knocked out of the tournament.
Speaking after being eliminated, Addo said he would be vacating the spot of Ghana’s national team coach.
“I said before, it was clear I would stop after the World Cup. At the moment, me and my family see our future in Germany, I like my role at Dortmund,” said Addo.
Borussia Dortmund’s talent coach also said that he would’ve resigned from the Ghana job even if they had become world champions.
“I said I would resign after the World Cup even if we were world champions,” Addo added.
With his resignation, Addo became the fourth coach to call time on their national team careers after being eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He joins Roberto Martinez (Belgium), Carlos Queiroz (Iran) and Gerardo Martino (Mexico) as coaches who immediately left their jobs after World Cup elimination.
