Actor, Gideon Okeke has shed light on the reason behind his public spat with colleague Jim Iyke
In a new post, Gideon Okeke revealed that he suffered an injury while working on Jim Iyke’s production, which required two stitches and took three months to heal.
Gideon Okeke expressed frustration about the lack of safety protocols on set, referencing a similar incident involving Junior Pope earlier this year.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety in the Nollywood industry, stating that his experience has driven him to advocate for better working conditions.
The actor questioned why he had to be the one to get hurt, but acknowledged that his ordeal might serve as a catalyst for change. Okeke’s post suggests that his confrontation with Jim Iyke was not just a personal attack, but also a call to action to address the broader issue of safety in the Nollywood workplace.
He said:
““For the benefit of clarity, For the benefit of My new employers,
My supporters, and the new year coming— Jnr Pope, is one death, too many, in this business. And that only happened this year, 2024.
Had I gotten anything more than these 2 stitches on the set of iim Iyke’s production, yall would still can me a fool I guess. It’s taken 3 whole Months to heal
from that and still I am committed to ensuring SAFETY, at the Nollywood work place Sometimes I’ve asked Myself, WHY WAS IT ME WHO GOT HURT?
I guess it’S so that NOBODY ELSE, gets to take one for the team. But jim ivke is running”

Did he force you to work with him? Why not state your conditions before accepting any offer?
He didn’t force him. But safety precautions are paramount. That was what killed junior pope
But he has a choice to accept or decline, it is not a must to accept the role if safety precautions were not put in place
Any actor that knows his job knows that if someone gets hurt on your set, it is your responsibility to take care of them
