A 7-year-old girl, Sloan Mattingly has tragically died
She was buried alive in a sand hole collapse while playing with her brother, Maddox, on a Florida beach.
The heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded during a family getaway on Lauderdale-by-the-Sea beach. The children were joyfully digging when a 4-to-5-foot-deep hole caved in, trapping Sloan and Maddox.
Despite frantic efforts from about 20 adults using hands and plastic pails, Sloan couldn’t be freed in time.
The children’s uncle, Chris Sloan revealed the heart-wrenching details, describing how Sloan tried to grab her brother’s leg in her final moments.
He added: “The sand had been up to her chest, and he was screaming for help, and a lot of people did come and help.”
Emergency responders arrived, but Sloan was pronounced dead upon reaching the hospital. Her brother, Maddox, was hospitalized in stable condition.
