Grammy-winning American gospel singer, Kirk Franklin, has revealed that he stopped talking to his mother at the age of 32
Appearing on the ‘Funky Friday’ podcast, the 54-year-old music star shared that he stopped talking to his biological mother because of an incident that happened when his mother brought her new husband while they were trying to rehabilitate his sister, who just got released from prison.
“For the first time ever, I’m going to tell this story. This is why I stopped talking to my biological mother. I was 32 years old and my sister got out of prison and I was the only one trying to help her with accommodation and other stuff,” he recalled.
“She was still struggling with drugs. It was more than a 32-year-old can handle. And we needed to do an intervention to help her. And again, this is not my daughter. She’s not my daughter. She’s my sister. She has a mother.
Last year, Franklin compiled the footage from these events into a short documentary streaming Sept. 15 on his YouTube channel ahead of the Oct. 6 release of his new album.
