Bayelsa State capital, Yenagoa, is alive with excitement as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially welcome Governor Douye Diri and his supporters into the party
Supporters from all eight local government areas began arriving in the state capital as early as 8 a.m., braving an early morning downpour. Many were dressed in white t-shirts and colourful outfits, while others marched through major streets singing and drumming to celebrate the occasion.
By 10 a.m., the 5,000-capacity Samson Siasia Stadium was already full, with the crowd still pouring in. Security officials eventually had to restrict further entry to prevent a potential stampede.
Governor Diri, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party just over two weeks ago, formally ended speculation about his political future by joining the ruling APC.
The event has drawn prominent figures, including the Governors of Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Ondo states—Umo Eno, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, respectively—along with former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh, and Diri’s predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa.
