Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has reportedly concluded plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has instructed his appointees to either follow him or resign

According to a Government House source, Eno made the announcement during a State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, warning that he would not negotiate with any appointee unwilling to move with him to the APC.

“Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave the PDP is still living in the 18th century,” the governor was quoted as saying. “Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you.”

Eno reportedly insisted he would still control the PDP structure in the state even after his defection. He expressed admiration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership style, which he said influenced his decision to align with the APC.

The PDP state chairman, Aniekan Akpan, could not be reached for comment as his phone lines were unavailable at the time of reporting.

However, Mr. Iniobong John, Director of the APC Media Network, confirmed the development. “It is no longer a rumour. Though unofficial, I can confirm that the governor is joining our party sooner or later. No official date has been confirmed yet, but all plans have been perfected for his defection,” he said.

John described the move as a major boost for the APC in Akwa Ibom and a strategic step to align the state more closely with the federal government.
