Gunmen Invade Edo Farm, Kill Staff, Burn Down 20-Hectare Rubber Plantation

Gunmen, on Tuesday, killed a staff member of Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc, and set the company’s over 20-hectare rubber plantation on fire.

The plantation is located in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Speaking with journalists, the company’s spokesman, Mr Fidelis Oliseh, said the gunmen stormed the plantation with AK-47 rifles and shot at one of their workers while he was trying to protect the company’s equipment.

He said after burning the excavators on the farm, the gunmen proceeded to the rubber plantation which was close by and also set it on fire.

Following the development, Oliseh said the company had shut down production, noting that the company was currently working with security agencies on the attack.

Meanwhile, the state’s police spokesperson, SP Bello Kontongs, said the command had not been briefed about the development.
