
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria yesterday while
addressing newsmen in Mecca on last Thursday’s hajj stampede said 10 more
bodies of Nigerian pilgrims have been discovered, bringing the total number of Nigerians who died in the stampede to 64, and not 54 like it earlier announced.

Alhaji Uba Mana, the Director, Public Affairs of the
commission, also said that 71 were so far wounded and not 61 like they also announced. 244 pilgrims have also been declared missing, he said.

Of the 64 dead pilgrims, Mana said, 46 were transported to Mecca
by state pilgrims’ welfare agencies while 18 were transported by private tour
operators. 59 of those injured were also brought by state pilgrims’ welfare
agencies and 12 by private tour operators, he disclosed.
