A kind-hearted teenage boy is leading an army of volunteers to help vulnerable people get essential items while in coronavirus isolation.
Ben Thornbury, 14, from Malmesbury in Wiltshire, has set up a “ Coronavirus advice and support ” website on top of his school work to help those in need during lockdown.
The website coordinates volunteers and matches them up with a person who needs help getting essentials.
There are 65 registered volunteers so far and hundreds more waiting to join in the small rural town where Ben lives.
“There was no system in place at the time in Malmesbury, so I needed to try and get something going… ready to help the self-isolated people,” Ben told Mirror Online.
“If someone needs a prescription picking up, I will receive an email and then I will coordinate a volunteer on that list and I will say: ‘Would you be able to help this person out? They need help picking up their prescription.’
“I will get that in place and then they will go and do that and they will update me so then I know it has been completed.”
The death toll for Covid-19 has surpassed 6,000 in the UK and more than 50,000 have tested positive in the country since the start of the pandemic.
