President Bola Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing him as a “good man” and a “performing minister,” despite public outrage over his controversial land revocation policies in Abuja
Wike’s actions, which have led to the displacement of thousands of Nigerians, have sparked accusations of land grabbing and favoritism. Many have called for his removal, citing alleged reallocation of seized lands to his associates through “front companies” such as Saravera and Aleed Construction Limited.
Despite the backlash, Tinubu remains firm in his support, stating he has no plans to cut down his cabinet members, including Wike, whom he views as effective in their roles.
Defending Wike’s actions, Tinubu criticized Nigerians for non-compliance with rules, saying, “Nyesom Wike is a performing minister. Nigerians lack compliance, period! We don’t pay our ground rent on time. We see compliance as inconveniences. I doff my hat for him.”
The president’s remarks have further fueled public outrage, with many questioning his stance amid allegations that Wike’s policies prioritize personal and political interests over the welfare of displaced residents.
