The Kano Hisbah Board has canceled the planned wedding between popular TikTok stars Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda
A magistrate court had previously directed the board to supervise the marriage within 60 days, warning that failure to comply would be considered contempt.

The order followed the arrest of the TikTokers by the Kano State Censorship Board after videos of them, labeled “immoral and demeaning,” went viral online.
The clips, which showed a shirtless Wushirya displaying affection toward Yar Guda, were deemed to violate state laws prohibiting sexually suggestive and obscene content.
Punch reports that Abba Sufi, Hisbah’s director-general, said the board discovered that Wushirya’s agreement to marry Yar Guda was an attempt to evade legal charges, rather than an act of genuine affection. As a result, the board canceled the wedding and referred the case back to the magistrate for further action.
“Mai Wushirya admitted that he misled the court, claiming he and Yar Guda were in love to avoid prosecution,” Sufi said. “With this revelation, we have canceled the wedding and referred the matter to the judge for appropriate measures.”
The court’s initial directive sparked widespread criticism, with many viewing it as an infringement on personal freedom. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) condemned the order as “unconstitutional,” emphasizing that marriage is a voluntary union that cannot be enforced by the state.
