The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended at least ten individuals for allegedly breaking Ramadan fast, selling food during fasting hours, and loitering in parts of Kano metropolis
The arrests followed an early morning operation on Wednesday, marking the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement from the Board’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Auwalu Ado Sheshe, the raid was led by the Officer-in-Charge of Operations, Malam Hafizu Garba Adakawa.
Eight youths were detained at different locations, including Kantin Kwari, Grand Central Hotel Street, Railway area, Unguwar Danmaliki, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, and Obasanjo Road, for allegedly failing to observe the fast.
Additionally, a food vendor, Murna Audu, and a sugarcane seller, Abubakar Tukur, were arrested at Yan Rake, Kofar Kansakali, for selling food items during fasting hours. Two young women, aged 16 and 20, were also detained along Nassarawa Hospital Road for alleged loitering.
The suspects reportedly expressed remorse to the press, asking for forgiveness and promising not to repeat the offences.
The Hisbah Board warned that individuals engaging in what it described as immoral behaviour, especially around motor parks, should desist, adding that enforcement operations would extend to those areas.
The Board urged ward heads and members of the public to report immoral activities in their communities to enable timely action and reiterated its commitment to enforcing moral conduct across Kano State during Ramadan.
