The long-awaited meeting between the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on Rivers State and the Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, is finally taking place after being postponed several times
The House is currently exercising its constitutional powers to assume the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
At the session, Ibas apologized for missing earlier appointments and requested more time to prepare a detailed briefing for the committee. He explained that he is still settling into his new role and appealed for the committee’s understanding.
Following his remarks, journalists were asked to leave the room as the meeting moved into a closed-door session.
Last week, the committee had postponed its interactive session with Ibas based on a formal request from him. The statement announcing the rescheduling noted that Ibas was attending the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
It was his first appearance at the NEC following his appointment as Sole Administrator by President Bola Tinubu after the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in March 2025. The NEC meeting was presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima and attended by several state governors and deputy governors from across the country.
