The Baale of Kirikiri Town, Chief Babalola Shabi, popularly known as “Baale No-Nonsense,” has accused officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) of facilitating VIP treatment for controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, during his incarceration for Naira abuse

Speaking at a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday, April 5, as part of National Police Week, the traditional ruler alleged that Bobrisky smuggled eight ATM cards into the Kirikiri custodial centre and used them to make transactions totaling N35 million through local POS operators—allegedly to bribe officials for special treatment.

According to Shabi, Bobrisky was never fully housed within the prison facility but instead stayed in a private residence arranged by complicit correctional officers.

“Before the truth came out, everyone believed he was in Kirikiri serving his time. But the reality is that Bobrisky was living comfortably outside the prison walls, thanks to a criminal collaboration involving some officials,” he stated.

Shabi said he discovered the scheme after summoning all POS operators in the area to his palace, which led to the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“I personally called in the EFCC after I summoned the POS operators to my palace. From there, they were able to trace the transactions and decode the money trail,” he said.

He explained that correctional officials had approached POS vendors to withdraw funds from Bobrisky’s ATM cards and that the swift movement of N35 million pointed to an organized ring.

“It was shocking how N35 million could be sourced from around here so quickly. Clearly, this was not a one-man job. The officials who aided him have been suspended,” Shabi added.

He also disclosed that the building where Bobrisky allegedly stayed during the period had been demolished and that he had been interrogated by both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the EFCC.

“The DSS first invited me for questioning, and I told them everything I knew. The EFCC also reached out, and I gave them my full cooperation. As a community leader, I cannot allow this type of impunity to go unchecked,” he said.

His account sharply contrasts with an earlier report from a National Assembly panel, which acknowledged that Bobrisky received preferential treatment but maintained that he remained within the prison premises throughout his sentence.
