The remand followed his arraignment by the police on charges of defaming the character of renowned legal figure, Chief Afe Babalola, in his book titled Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.

Farotimi pleaded not guilty to all 16 counts against him. Police prosecutor, Samson Osun, requested his remand in the correctional center pending further investigation.

In response, Farotimi’s counsel, Barrister Dayo Akeredolu, opposed the remand request, urging the court to grant bail on liberal terms and self-recognizance. Akeredolu argued that the case is bailable, and Farotimi, being a well-known figure, posed no threat. He emphasized that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun rejected the bail application, ordered Farotimi’s remand in prison custody, and adjourned the case until December 10 for further hearing.
