Segun Johnson has shared that economic hardship pushed him into a career in music
Speaking during an interview with Teju BabyFace, he described how the difficult living conditions in Nigeria shaped his path.
Being thrown the question of if music had always been his dream or a later discovery, Johnson answered frankly in Yoruba:
“Ebi ni, hunger ni. If you are in Nigeria, you don’t have a choice,” implying that hunger drove him into music.
He also spoke about his early days as a backup singer for several well-known artists, describing it as a tough period, especially when he had to perform in front of some of his former clients.
