Sharon Adeleke, Davido’s elder sister, says she did not realise how wealthy her family was until she moved to Nigeria at the age of 21.

Speaking on The Fashion Roundtable, hosted by Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, Sharon described her childhood as a normal one, despite being the daughter of billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke.

She said:

“I didn’t even know we have money till like 21, to be honest with you. I lived a very normal life outside of my schools”.

Sharon recalled that she started working while she was still in school. At the time, she cleaned her school’s changing rooms to earn £5 a week.

“I’ve always worked because my dad will give you just enough. He never let us know,” she said.

She also worked as a babysitter for about five years, continuing until her final year in college. According to Sharon, the experience later influenced her decision to establish a crèche.

Although her family lived comfortably, she said their lifestyle was not as extravagant as people might expect.

“We had money to do stuff, but it was very normal. It was not like what people see now, out of the ordinary. There was no PJ. There was no G-Wagon. It was normal. It was above average”, she said.

Sharon’s account reflects how her father kept money from becoming the centre of family life while encouraging his children to work and earn their own money.
