US-based Nigerian professor Uju Anya has opened up about discovering her attraction to women a decade into her marriage with her ex-husband
In an interview on WithChude, Anya emphasized that her marriage was genuine, describing it as “exciting and fulfilling.” She explained that it was only ten years into the relationship that she realized her true attraction lay with women.

“It was not a fake marriage. I was genuinely in love and excited, and the sex was fantastic,” she said. “Ten years into the marriage, I realised I needed to be with women, and he gave me permission to go ahead.”
Anya is now married to Dr. Sirry Alang, whom she described as her “dream wife” and “sweetheart.” She explained that their union is about more than just marriage — it’s about blending families.
“We did not just get married; we blended a family,” Anya said.
The couple got engaged in March 2024 and tied the knot later that year.
Anya is a lecturer at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States. She gained attention in 2022 after a tweet about the late Queen Elizabeth II went viral.
Alang, a Cameroonian-American health services researcher, is also an associate professor of Sociology and Health, Medicine and Society at Lehigh University. Both women have previously been married to men and have children from their past relationships.
