In a recent interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo aired his perspective on marriage and cultural traditions
He expressed his belief that having only one wife is not part of Africa’s tradition, but rather an adopted concept from abroad.
Kanayo O. Kanayo also criticized religious leaders who ask their followers to give them their “first fruits,” suggesting that this practice is misguided.
Instead, he believes that one’s first earnings should be given to their parents, as a sign of respect and gratitude.
He emphasized his point by referencing the Bible, saying.

“I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture, it is not our tradition, it is not who we are. These are imported things.
“Religion has brought a lot of washing that a man will sit in the comfort of his home and ask my son or daughter to bring what they call the first fruit. For what? Na you train am? We all have anointing. Bible says “Ye are gods.” I am a god. Your first salary is for your father, not your pastor.”
