I don't have a gun - Tinubu denies k!lling opposition

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed claims that he is masterminding the recent wave of defections from opposition parties into the ruling All Progressives Congress, insisting that no lawmaker or political figure was forced to switch allegiance

The President made the clarification on Wednesday night while hosting members of the Senate to an interfaith Iftar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Addressing concerns that his administration is weakening opposition parties, Tinubu rejected accusations that he was using the power of his office to intimidate or suppress rivals.

He maintained that politicians who abandoned their former platforms acted independently and were not pressured by the presidency.

“Critics are entitled to their views. Some say I have killed the opposition, but I didn’t have a gun.”

“Even though I have the authority, I have not misused it.”

Tinubu added that he would not blame individuals for leaving what he likened to a sinking ship, suggesting that political realignments are a natural response to internal crises within parties.

Beyond the political debate, the President urged unity in tackling Nigeria’s pressing security concerns, including terrorism and banditry. He called on lawmakers across party lines to prioritise national stability and democratic growth.

Tinubu also appealed to the National Assembly to commence constitutional amendments that would allow for the establishment of state police, describing the move as essential to addressing the country’s escalating security challenges.
