Activist lawyer Dele Farotimi has maintained that he has never lied against anyone, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afe Babalola, whose name appeared in his controversial book, Nigeria And Its Criminal Justice System
Speaking on Tuesday after his release from the Ekiti State Correctional Centre, Farotimi addressed journalists, reiterating his commitment to truth. He emphasized that all his statements about individuals are factual.
Farotimi was freed after meeting his bail conditions, which included a ₦30 million bond, two sureties (one being a property owner), and the submission of his passport. The court also prohibited him from granting media interviews.
The lawyer was arrested earlier this month over allegations of defaming Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD). Despite the challenges, Farotimi stated that his fight against what he described as the “evil empire” of Nigeria is guided solely by the truth.
Farotimi said, “It is not ever an easy journey when you are fighting evil, but some years back, before I started this work, God told me that the truth is enough.
“It is the only weapon with which you can slay the monster called Nigeria, which is the truth.
“In my war against the evil empire that we all live in, I have never lied against anyone. If I don’t know, I will say I don’t know.”
