"I have never thought of getting married" - Ruth Kadiri on how she met her husband

Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has shared a very personal reflection on how she met her husband and how their relationship unfolded in a way she never really planned for.

She explained that marriage was never something she grew up obsessing over or actively chasing. It simply wasn’t part of the pressure she felt in life.

“I’ve never really been the girl who sits down and thinks about marriage. It wasn’t a thing for me. I didn’t even know whether I was going to get married. I never had that kind of pressure to settle down.”

For her, confidence came first. She saw herself as someone valuable and didn’t feel the need to rush into anything just for the sake of it.

“I knew I was a catch, and anyone who was going to marry me would be lucky. As for who that person was going to be, I never really knew. But one thing I knew was that I kept saying no to whoever I was dating. I said no to like three people who wanted to marry me.”

Things took a turn when she met her husband at work. According to her, it didn’t start with romance or big emotions just a simple encounter that later became something deeper.

“The first day I met my husband, God told me he was the one I was going to marry. I went to work, and he saw me and wanted to talk to me. At first, I wasn’t interested, but I later gave in. I thought he wanted to toast me or something”, she said.

Their conversation that day stayed surprisingly normal. No declarations, no pressure just talking about life and work.

“The next thing, we started talking about Vietnam, business, importation and all that. We finished talking, and there was nothing like “I love you” or “I like you.”

Even as she walked away, she says she felt a strong conviction about what was ahead.

“As I was about to walk away, the Spirit of God told me, “He’s your husband.”

Still, she didn’t immediately jump into anything. In fact, she pulled back at first.
“Two days later, I bl0cked him. But he went the extra mile to find me, and I was surprised to see him on my set. He found his way back and asked me out on a date.”

At the time, she was still in another relationship, but she made it clear that her commitment didn’t mean she was closed off from life or choices.

“I told the guy I was in a relationship with that I was going on a date, and I went. The fact that I’m in a relationship with a man doesn’t mean I’m h00ked. I’m very much single until I’m married.”

That date changed things. What started casually slowly grew into something she couldn’t ignore.

“I told him I was going on a date with another man, and that was it. We started talking, and I realised I was beginning to like him. Four months later, he proposed to me, and I accepted.”

Looking back, she says she’s never been someone who broadcasts her private life, but she chose to share this part because of what it meant for her journey at the time.
