I pray before kissing in movie scenes – Daniel Etim Effiong

Actor, Daniel Etim-Effiong has revealed that he always prays before performing kissing scenes in movies, explaining that his faith plays a major role in the decisions he makes as an actor

Speaking on Channels Television’s programme Rubbin’ Minds, Etim-Effiong said he seeks divine guidance before taking on romantic roles, emphasizing that prayer gives him peace and direction whenever a script requires physical intimacy.

He explained that the frequent inclusion of kissing scenes in Nollywood films is largely a reflection of market demand, noting that many producers add such scenes because they attract viewers and boost engagement.

According to him, “I often get to play romantic characters, which sometimes means there’ll be kissing scenes. People think I do too many of them, but the real question should be for the producers. Why express affection in only one way when there are several others? Regardless, I stay focused and don’t let criticism distract me. I just concentrate on my work.”

Etim-Effiong said his creative process is deeply influenced by his relationship with God. “Before I go on set for a scene that involves kissing, I pray. I ask for grace to handle it well. My family grounds me, and my work is my calling,” he said.

The actor, who switched from engineering to filmmaking, described acting as a divine assignment and a way to serve God through storytelling. “It became a purpose for me — that’s why I left a well-paying engineering job to follow my passion. Acting allows me to tell stories that inspire people. For me, that’s a form of worship,” he added.
