Aliyu Audu, former Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs to President Bola Tinubu, has revealed that he resigned from his position to actively campaign against Tinubu’s re-election in 2027

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, Audu said his decision was based on “principle and conscience,” accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to reduce Nigeria to a one-party state.
“The President’s Democracy Day speech only confirmed my fears and strengthened my resolve not to work for him in 2027,” Audu said. “I couldn’t, in good conscience, stay in his government while plotting to oppose him. And I will — by God’s grace, we will remove him. Nigerians will collectively choose a leader — not his chosen, not emilokan (my turn), but awa lokan (our turn), in fact, gbogbo wa lokan (all of us).”
Audu also criticized the inclusion of Nyesom Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the APC-led government, questioning both his loyalty and the logic behind his appointment.
“What is Wike doing in our government? If he wants to leave PDP, let him do so officially. If we’re talking about a government of national unity, then we should be engaging political parties, not individual politicians. We voted for parties, not Tinubu, Atiku, or Peter Obi.”
In his resignation letter dated June 8, Audu condemned what he described as the APC’s troubling political direction and the silencing of opposition voices. In a subsequent statement, he clarified that he does not support the PDP, but would not allow himself to be used in what he called an effort to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
“If we now begin to crush opposition simply because we’re in power, we risk undermining democracy itself,” he warned.
