Singer, Cobhams Asuquo has shared a pivotal moment in his career that set him apart from his peers

In an interview with Pulse TV, Asuquo disclosed that at the age of 24, he made the bold decision to start charging his clients in dollars, a move that was unheard of in the Nigerian music industry at the time.
Asuquo attributed this forward-thinking approach to his recognition of the value of his craft and his desire for financial stability.
He explained that he chose to peg his charges in dollars as a means of ensuring stability, particularly as his career was gaining momentum.
The music producer proudly noted that his decision was a pioneering move, as he was unaware of any other producers charging in dollars at the time.
Asuquo’s early realization of his worth and the value of his work played a significant role in this bold move.
Asuquo also emphasized his commitment to delivering exceptional work, stating that while he cannot guarantee that his work is the best globally, he strives to provide the best possible output.
This dedication to excellence has contributed to his success and reputation in the music industry.
“I am one of the few producers who started charging in a different currency for the purpose of stability. As far back as 2005, I began to peg my charges in dollars because I felt it was a stable thing to do. I was obviously getting signed and getting things going, and I needed to be able to transact in that space. I hear music producers charge now in dollars, and I say to myself, I started doing this in 2005 when I was just 24. I didn’t know anybody else who was doing that at the time. That’s me waking up to the value of my work. Till tomorrow, I cannot promise that what I will give you is the best in the world, but it’s the best I can give you—and it is very well close to the best in the world.”
