President Bola Tinubu on Sunday playfully cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against shifting Abuja’s political landscape in favor of the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), through his extensive infrastructure initiatives

Tinubu made the remarks while hosting a delegation from the FCT—his first guests for the Eid-El-Fitr homage—led by Wike at the Presidential Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.
Recalling a past conversation, Tinubu said, “I remember the day Nyesom Wike came to me and said, ‘Please, take us out of this problem of TSA so that I can do more work and achieve more.’
“I asked him what he planned to do, and he presented it. I then added my political perspective, asking, ‘Would that give me any opportunity for my party to win the election in FCT?’
“I told him, ‘I know where you are coming from, your own party or my party. If this thing goes too much in your own favor, you will lose your job.’ Then he said, ‘Okay, we will settle that, Oga.’”
Jokingly, Tinubu turned to Wike and said, “Don’t turn Abuja into a PDP stronghold with all these projects you are doing, oh! We are watching you.”
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and longtime PDP figure, assumed his current role in the All Progressives Congress-led administration while maintaining his PDP affiliation. In a live broadcast marking his first year in office last August, he clarified that his appointment did not mean he was leaving the PDP, dismissing speculations of defection.
His remarks came amid a power struggle with his successor and estranged political ally, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was suspended on March 18 after Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
On Sunday, Tinubu highlighted the rapid transformation of the FCT since Wike’s appointment, emphasizing the revival of abandoned projects and improvements in healthcare and education.
“Things started changing rapidly. I saw the opening up of rural areas, the revival of abandoned projects, and the long-neglected vice president’s residence coming back to life
