Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, has lashed out at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde following a controversial display of physical agility that has stirred political conversations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Igboho accused the governor of disrespecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that political arguments should not descend into what he considers mockery of an older leader.
In a video circulating online, the activist delivered a blunt message to anyone he believes is insulting the President.
Igboho said:
“If you insult Tinubu, I will insult you back”.
He also lashed out at Makinde over the governor’s decision to jump down from a stage during a political gathering in Akure, Ondo State, arguing that the demonstration was intended to ridicule Tinubu’s physical ability.
“He was jumping around like a frog and a mad man, insulting Tinubu, saying Tinubu can’t jump like him, as if he doesn’t have a father”, Igboho said.
The activist further called for respect towards elderly people and condemned what he viewed as an inappropriate way to make a political point.
The incident occurred during a South-West town hall meeting in Akure, where Makinde used a physical demonstration to advance his argument about the qualities Nigerians should consider when choosing their next president.
Rather than allowing age to dominate the conversation, the governor argued that candidates should demonstrate the energy required to handle the responsibilities of the presidency.
He challenged other presidential hopefuls to match his display, stating:
“If they can do that, vote for them.”
While Makinde did not expressly mention Tinubu during the demonstration, the stunt was interpreted by the activist as an indirect reference to the President’s physical stamina.
