Pastor Bolaji Idowu has advised people in marriages or relationships that put their health and lives at risk to step away temporarily rather than remain in a dangerous situation.
Speaking during a sermon, the pastor said couples do not have to stay in a harmful relationship while trying to work through their problems.
He explained that taking some time apart could allow them to address their issues from a safer distance, with the possibility of returning if the marriage can be repaired.
He made it clear that he does not support the idea that someone should remain in a marriage even when it is putting their life in danger.
He said:
“Any marriage or relationship that is threatening your health and life, pack your load and leave temporarily. Fix the marriage from outside. If it is fixable, then you come back. I will not say if your marriage is killing you, stay there. I don’t believe that”.
His advice was that anyone whose marriage is putting their health or life at risk should leave temporarily and try to work things out from a distance.
Rather than treating separation as an automatic end to the relationship, he said that stepping away temporarily could give couples the space to work on their marriage without remaining in a situation that threatens their well-being.
