An Igbo Muslim has been named at the new Imam of Abuja National Mosque.

The man is Professor Iliyasu Usman

Usman delivered his inaugural sermon during Friday’s Jumm’at prayer, marking a significant milestone.

Also, the South East Muslim Organisation of Nigeria (SEMON) has hailed the appointment, praising the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for their inclusivity.

SEMON congratulated Professor Usman, noting his commitment to Islamic scholarship and leadership.

The organization expressed optimism that his leadership will strengthen the Igbo Muslim community and promote unity among Nigerian Muslims.

In a statement, SEMON said:

“We congratulate Professor Ilyasu Usman on his appointment as Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja. This role is a testament to his dedication and scholarly excellence, and a divine blessing to lead the Ummah.
