The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has identified foreign sponsors of the planned August 1-10 protests, which aim to cause mayhem and violence across the country
Although the IGP did not reveal the identities of the suspected sponsors, he emphasized that protesters must register with the police command in their respective states.
The NPF will protect peaceful protesters but will not tolerate those with ulterior motives.
According to The Leadership, Protest groups must provide the intended venue, routes, and locations for proper coordination.
In preparation for the protests, the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force has deployed 4,200 personnel in the Territory, with material and human resources deployed across strategic locations.
The police will ensure public safety, protect protesters, and prevent protests from being hijacked by non-state actors.
Residents are urged to be vigilant and report suspicious activities through the provided emergency lines.
