Seun Kuti has taken to social media to clarify his views on European colonialism and its people
In an Instagram post, Kuti sought to correct public misconceptions, emphasizing that his antagonism to colonialism and imperialism is not tantamount to hatred towards Europeans.
Kuti acknowledged the crucial role European allies have played in the fight against unjust systems, highlighting their contributions to the pursuit of a more equitable world.
He stressed the importance of distinguishing between criticism of colonialism and hatred towards European people.
By drawing this distinction, Kuti aims to promote a nuanced understanding of his views, recognizing that being against colonialism does not necessarily mean being against European people.
Instead, he celebrates the solidarity and shared commitment to justice and fairness that exists between individuals from different backgrounds.
He said:
“I’m against European colonisation and imperialism but that does not mean that I’m against European people. Many Europeans have been our allies in the fight against greed and unfair systems, to make the world a fairer place for everyone.
“Being against colonisation does not mean being against Europeans, many have stood with us in the fight for justice and fairness.”
