Former U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced his disappointment in Elon Musk, deepening a growing rift between the two influential figures

Speaking at a recent White House meeting, Trump criticized Musk for suddenly turning against a Republican-backed tax and spending bill, which the Tesla CEO had described as a “disgusting abomination.”
“I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here,” Trump said. “He had no problem with it. He only started complaining when it affected his business.”
The fallout appears tied to proposed cuts in electric vehicle subsidies, which would directly impact Tesla. Trump suggested Musk’s objections were self-serving and came only after realizing the financial implications for his company.
In response, Musk escalated the feud on social media by alleging that Trump is named in the unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files — a claim for which he provided no evidence. He hinted that the files have been kept secret to protect Trump.
The public spat has had real-world consequences. Tesla’s stock dropped sharply in recent days, stripping the company of its place in the $1 trillion market capitalization club.
