Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his commitment to staying in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, despite the defection of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and 15 other lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress, APC
Speaking after inspecting road projects in Abuja, Wike said the defections are a result of the deepening divisions within the PDP, but stressed that he has no intention of abandoning the party.
“I am still in the PDP. Not everyone has left—16 or 17 of them out of 27. We still have about 10 members, and we will continue to work together,” he said, highlighting his determination to remain loyal.
He urged the PDP leadership to urgently resolve the internal crisis that is causing members to leave.
“If you don’t put your house in order, it is the party that suffers. Those who left are free, but those who remain will continue to work together,” Wike said.
Addressing viral claims that he had been arrested in France, the minister dismissed the reports as politically motivated falsehoods.
“Last time, they said I was sick and flown abroad. Now, they claim I was arrested in France. I am simply doing my job and staying focused,” he said.
Wike emphasized that his focus remains on performance and fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by President Bola Tinubu.
“As long as the President is satisfied with my work and I remain committed, people will say all sorts of things. My priority is to deliver and remain steadfast in the PDP,” he added.
He concluded that steady performance and loyalty to the party will eventually silence critics.
“When they spread lies, people will eventually ignore them. Critics will always play politics, but I am focused on my work and my party,” Wike stated.
