According to a statement released by NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, the probe was launched after a video circulated on social media showing a female traveler tearing apart a Nigerian Standard Passport.

The incident, which occurred on August 10, 2024, involved a woman identified as Mrs. Igiebor, who destroyed her husband’s passport upon arrival at the airport.

When questioned, Mrs. Igiebor responded, “Is it your passport?”

The NIS has noted that her actions may be in violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which prohibits the intentional destruction of Nigerian travel documents.
