Filmmaker Imoh Umoren has explained why he is often reluctant to take group pictures, especially when he is in Lagos.
For Umoren, it is not simply about being camera-shy or avoiding photographs. He says there is a more practical reason behind his decision, particularly when he finds himself surrounded by people he may not know well.
The filmmaker pointed to the possibility of unknowingly appearing in a photograph with someone who may be wanted by the police. In a city as busy as Lagos, where people from different backgrounds regularly cross paths, he said he would rather be careful about the company he is seen keeping.
In a post on his X account, he wrote:
“I don’t take group pictures because alot of people are wanted by thepolice” .
For Umoren, avoiding such photographs is therefore a personal precaution. Rather than taking chances, he would rather keep things simple and avoid being part of group pictures when he is unsure about everyone involved.
