The Independent National Electoral Commission has ordered its Resident Electoral Commissioners to pause all publicity campaigns and logistical plans for the upcoming voter revalidation exercise nationwide
This comes just days after the commission fixed April 13 as the kickoff date for the exercise, aimed at updating the voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 4, 2026, titled “Notice of Meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (Virtual)” and signed by Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission instructed RECs to suspend ongoing activities and await fresh directives.
“RECs are also directed to step down all publicity and arrangements for the voter revalidation exercise and await further directives from the commission.”
Despite the suspension, INEC asked the commissioners to continue behind-the-scenes preparations, including recruiting personnel and getting the voter enrolment devices ready for deployment.
