FIFA president Gianni Infantino is expected to hold an emergency meeting with top FIFA officials in Morocco as he seeks support ahead of key decisions within world football
According to reports, Infantino has been reaching out to FIFA Member Associations to strengthen his backing, with Asian football federations emerging as a major focus of his campaign.
Prince Ali Al Hussein has criticised the approach, alleging that some of the efforts to secure votes “amount to blackmail.”
Meanwhile, FIFA General Secretary Mattias Grafström and FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger have both publicly voiced concerns over Infantino’s FIFA Forward Enterprise proposals.
Despite his influence, reports suggest Infantino is still working to confirm whether he has the backing of at least 106 votes before deciding his next move.
Some national football associations have reportedly asked for more time before making a decision, while the Swiss Football Association has requested a direct meeting with Infantino before declaring its position.
