United States President Donald Trump has said his administration will only consider an agreement with Iran if the country agrees to an “unconditional surrender.”
In a post shared on Truth Social on Friday, Trump stated that any future arrangement with Tehran must begin with the regime stepping down, after which a new leadership acceptable to the international community would be selected.

“The U.S. will sign no deal with Iran except one that involves unconditional surrender,” he wrote.
He added that once the surrender happens and “the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s)” is made, the United States and its allies would work to rebuild Iran and restore its economic strength.
“After that, we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before,” Trump said.
He also declared that Iran could still have a promising future, adding: “IRAN WILL HAVE A GREAT FUTURE. ‘MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!).’”
Trump has repeatedly stated that he would like to play a role in determining who leads Iran next, stressing that the country needs someone capable of bringing peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that any future Iranian supreme leader who continues to threaten Israel, the United States or their allies would be treated as a target.
“If he continues to threaten Israel, the U.S. and others, he will be a target for elimination,” Katz said.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, however, suggested that mediation efforts were already underway, noting that several unnamed countries had begun attempts to de-escalate the crisis.
“Let’s be clear: we are committed to lasting peace in the region yet we have no hesitation in defending our nation’s dignity & sovereignty,” he wrote on social media.
“Mediation should address those who underestimated the Iranian people and ignited this conflict.”
The tensions come amid continued military exchanges in the region. Israeli warplanes reportedly carried out strikes on Beirut and Tehran on Friday, while Iran launched retaliatory attacks against Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. forces.
Casualty figures from the escalating conflict continue to climb. Reports indicate that at least 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, more than 120 in Lebanon, and about a dozen in Israel. Six U.S. soldiers have also reportedly died.
