Isreal DMW, a personal logistics manager to singer Davido and a proud indigene of Benin, has stirred reactions online after sharing a controversial photo collage involving President Bola Tinubu, the Ooni of Ife, and the Oba of Benin
The collage, posted on his Instagram story, featured two contrasting moments: one showing Tinubu bowing in greeting to the Oba of Benin, and the other showing the Ooni of Ife bowing before Tinubu.
Accompanying the images, Isreal wrote, “Oba ghato kpere…” — a traditional Benin phrase meaning “Long live the king,” often used in reverence to the Oba of Benin.
The post quickly gained attention, with many interpreting it as a subtle assertion of the superiority of the Benin monarchy over other traditional institutions in Nigeria. Others saw it as a celebration of Benin heritage and culture.
While some commenters praised Isreal for showing pride in his roots, others warned against promoting rivalry or disrespect among royal institutions, noting the cultural sensitivities surrounding traditional rulers.
Isreal DMW, known for his outspoken loyalty to both Davido and his Benin roots, has not made any further comments as of press time.
