Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has ordered military strikes on Tehran after accusing Iran of violating a U.S.-brokered ceasefire

In a statement on Tuesday, Katz claimed that Iranian forces launched missiles at Israel just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire to halt nearly two weeks of hostilities.
“In light of Iran’s blatant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States, I have directed the IDF to continue high-intensity operations targeting regime assets and terror infrastructure in Tehran,” Katz said.
Iran swiftly denied the allegation. State-linked media outlet Nour News quoted the armed forces general staff as saying no missile had been fired toward Israel in recent hours. Both Iran’s Foreign Ministry and military officials insisted they were observing the truce.
Trump had announced the ceasefire earlier Tuesday via his social media platform, Truth Social, marking the end of 12 days of direct confrontation that began on June 13 when Israel launched a surprise strike on Iranian nuclear and missile sites.
Following the truce announcement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel had achieved its objectives, including damaging Iran’s nuclear program.
“Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defence and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat,” Netanyahu stated.
Iran, however, claimed the opposite. The Supreme National Security Council said military pressure forced Israel to accept a ceasefire. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi had earlier promised to suspend retaliatory actions if Israel ceased its attacks from 4:00 a.m. local time.
The conflicting narratives have cast doubt on the ceasefire’s viability and raised fears of renewed conflict as tensions continue to escalate.
