Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Oyo State, has strongly denied allegations linking him to the a.bduction of Mrs Olaide Adegoke, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

The denial was contained in a statement issued by his media office and shared on his X handle on Sunday, where reports connecting him to the incident were described as “false, malicious, baseless, irresponsible, defamatory, and politically motivated.”

Mrs Adegoke was k!dnapped at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while driving her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, to school in Ibadan.

According to reports, armed men intercepted her vehicle in the Elewura area and took her and the children hostage before they were eventually rescued on Saturday.

Alli, who recently defeated Adelabu to clinch the APC governorship ticket, said the allegations against him were founded on unverified claims allegedly made by a suspect currently under investigation.

The statement maintained that it was unreasonable to associate the senator with criminal allegations that had not been substantiated by security agencies.

“It is absurd and illogical for anyone to attempt to link Senator Alli to criminal allegations based on unverified claims allegedly made by a suspect under investigation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Alli has no connection whatsoever with the said criminal incident, the individuals mentioned, or any activity related to k!dnapping or violence,” the statement read.

The media office further alleged that efforts to associate campaign materials or stickers with criminal activities formed part of a calculated attempt by political opponents to damage the lawmaker’s reputation.

“We note with concern that even the report itself admitted that no security agency has established any link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime.

“It is therefore disturbing that faceless propagandists would deliberately weaponise unconfirmed claims to mislead the public and heat up the polity,” the statement added.
