Senator Iyiola Omisore, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared his intention to run for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State under the party’s banner
Omisore, a former deputy governor of the state, announced his plans on Saturday via his X handle, noting that the formal declaration will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Osun APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo.
The event, themed “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” is scheduled for 10 a.m.

“My beloved people of Osun State, after deep reflection and wide consultations, I have decided to formally declare my intention to contest for the Governor of Osun State in 2026 under our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Omisore wrote.
He emphasized that his campaign will focus on restoring hope, strengthening governance, and creating a brighter future for Osun residents. “This is not just my mission, it is a collective one. I humbly invite you to join me as we take this bold step towards the Osun Rescue Mission 2026,” he added.
Omisore, who previously contested the 2014 governorship election in Osun on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before joining the APC, is expected to be a leading contender for the party’s ticket.
He served as Osun’s deputy governor from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy and represented Osun East in the Senate from 2003 to 2011, where he chaired the Senate Appropriations Committee.
After losing the 2014 governorship election to then-incumbent Rauf Aregbesola under the PDP, Omisore briefly joined the Social Democratic Party for the 2018 election before moving to the APC in 2021. Within thirteen months of joining, he became the party’s National Secretary at the national convention in Abuja, following the withdrawal of his main opponent.
