The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially admitted to errors that affected the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), leading to widespread concerns among candidates and parents

At a press conference held on May 14, 2025, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede expressed regret over the situation, citing technical glitches and human errors that distorted some candidates’ results. “What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” he said emotionally, taking full responsibility for the mishap.
As part of its corrective measures, JAMB has announced that 379,997 affected candidates will retake the exam. The board revealed that 206,610 of them are in Lagos, while 173,387 are from the South-East states—Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Anambra.
The rescheduled exams will begin on Friday, May 16, 2025. JAMB assured that all affected candidates will be contacted directly with details of their new exam dates and centers.
This revelation follows widespread outrage over unusually low scores in the 2025 UTME, where over 75 percent of the 1.9 million candidates scored below 200 out of 400.
JAMB has pledged to improve its processes to prevent similar occurrences in future examinations.
