The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched an expedited review of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) process following a surge of complaints from candidates nationwide

The examination body, which released the UTME results last Friday, confirmed it had received an unusually high number of reports alleging discrepancies in the scores.
In a statement issued on Monday, JAMB announced it is fast-tracking its annual system review — a process that usually takes place months after the exams — to promptly address the concerns.
The review will cover all phases of the UTME process: registration, examination, and result release. JAMB emphasized that every candidate had the opportunity to sit for the test and that any disruptions were met with prompt rescheduling.
To ensure a thorough investigation, JAMB said it is working with several external stakeholders, including experts from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, heads of tertiary institutions serving as chief external examiners, and the Educational Association and Research Network in Africa.
The board promised to implement remedial actions if any technical faults are discovered.
This comes amid a wave of dissatisfaction on social media, where candidates and their families have raised alarms about result irregularities. Some candidates have rejected their results outright, claiming they do not reflect their true performance.
Over 8,000 candidates are reported to have lodged formal complaints citing technical issues during the exam.
JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin defended the results, stating that they accurately represent candidates’ performance.
According to the board, more than 78 percent of candidates scored below 200 out of the total 400 marks, raising fresh questions about the exam’s integrity and the quality of preparation.
JAMB has appealed for patience as the review continues, assuring the public that any identified issues will be addressed in line with its commitment to fairness and transparency.
